Australian Bebop RagasPoint Richmond

Australian Bebop Ragas (also known as ABR) features original compositions based on Hindustani Ragas.

Teed Rockwell learned these Ragas from over a hundred classes with Ali Akbar Khan, and from dozens of classes with Sitar Maestros Shahid Parvez and Habib Khan. Teed is the only person in the world to play in this musical tradition on the Touchstyle Veena, a unique customized instrument which has a guitar-like fretboard played by tapping the strings simultaneously with both hands.

Jesse Sheehan is one of the very few saxophonists trained in the Hindustani musical tradition. He studied tabla in India for years with living legend Pandit Nayan Ghosh, and also performed with many of India’s finest musicians.

Andy Graham plays (Australian) didgeridoo and (Bebop) drums simultaneously, using a unique rack mounted system that he designed and built himself. He played with Teed in the popular Sonoma county band DyaTribal, and is widely known as the inventor of many unique musical instruments. He is especially known for the slaperoo, which is played by musicians as diverse as Stevie Wonder and Indian Percussionist Shivamani.

ABR was originally formed with Teed Rockwell on the Touchstyle Veena, Stephen Kent on didgeridoo, and Sameer Gupta on drums. This version of ABR played numerous concerts across the state and country, including several shows at the famed Berkeley venue Freight & Salvage. They also recorded an album called Snakes and Ladders, which sold thousands of copies through a variety of distributors, has over a hundred listener-created stations on Pandora, and is widely listened to on Spotify, Apple, and most other streaming services.

“Jinx Jones is out there. Four or five nights a week, the great guitar player with the immaculate pompadour can be found at various Bay Area venues, working the stage, doing his thing. "Jinx is a guitar virtuoso who seamlessly moves from rockabilly to jazz to twang and back again, sometimes in the same song. Those with a liner note obsession will remember Jinx’s playing on En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind.”

NEW ORIGINAL MID-CENTURY SOUL MUSIC
Based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, California The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, was founded in 2007, by guitarist/songwriter Anthony Paule. Formed in late 1978, Ancient Future is the first and longest running musical organization dedicated exclusively to the mission of creating world fusion music. Their music combines contemporary jazz and rock with the irresistible rhythms of Africa, Bali, India, the Middle East and South America, the rich harmonies of European classical music, and the melodic knowledge of the whole world.

"If the members of the United Nations formed a world-fusion band, it might look and sound a little something like Ancient Future."— Ryan Allen, Leo Weekly, Louisville, Kentucky

"The key to Ancient Future is its ability to present various styles of music in settings that are accessible but still exotically charming. The net result is an infectious sound that simultaneously entertains and challenges." – Edward Tywoniak, BAM (Bay Area Music)

"Marvelous rhythmic patterns ... truly magnificent tonal balances ... the shifting dynamics, the fabric of the ensemble, the emergence, (then gradual disappearance) of melodic lines and the esprit de corps are MESMERIZING." – Philip Elwood, San Francisco Examiner

LOUIZAOakland

Bay Area native LOUIZA is one of indie music’s best rising pop singer-songwriters. She's released several albums, including Party Trick, Swim at Night, On, Off, White Light, Blood, Sweat, Rinse, Repeat and continues to receive glowing press for her music. Her discography questions and captures the spectrum of human essence in all its playfulness, boldness, and beauty.

LOUIZA's forthcoming EP, Like a Queen, revisits an idea posed in White Light: that we are able to hold a spectrum of feelings the way white light is able to hold a spectrum of colors, all at the same time. Like a Queen acts as a prism for LOUIZA's experience of grief. Each song represents a shade or phase of processing loss. "Like the Moon" reveals a desire to abandon this life and start over. "Now I Don't Know How" invokes a pervasive listlessness.

LOUIZA identifies her sound as alt-pop with a grunge hiss. Fans have likened her to a Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell love-child. Her influences include early St Vincent, Paper Castles era Alice Phoebe Lou and Wye Oak. Her voice carries range and emotionality like Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and bares an oboe-like depth via Natalie Mering (Weyes Blood).

The Live OaksRichmond, CA

Once upon a time, under an ol' Oak tree at Doc's house...
The Live Oaks band began in the hills of Oakland in 2016. In the backyard of a legendary doctor's home. Our friend "Doc" was a pioneer of free health clinics in San Francisco in the 60's-70's and also happened to be a lover of rock & roll. He even had Jerry Garcia as a friend and patient. He was widowed and chronically ill later in his life and preferred the company of musicians, so he took us in.
He provided a roof over our heads.
He let musicians live at his home for free as long as there was music and some good cookin'. He took care of us, and we took care of him. We danced and dreamed about rock & roll. It gave us hope. It gave the house in which we called "Bagshotte" life again. We sang for Doc, we wrote for Doc, we brought the best musicians we knew over to the house to jam for Doc. A lot of our songs were written at his house in the hills. That was 9 years ago when we first moved in. He even purchased us an acoustic Martin guitar that we still use on stage to this day. But after years of battling cancer, he is gone now and has since passed away.
But since then we have not stopped writing music and refining our live show and recording processes. We have done it all. Toured in shitty vans up and down the West Coast over many years (the vans improved eventually), playing for our friends and in small venues. But lately the venue sizes are starting increase as well as our organic fan base. We really believe in word of mouth not social media app bullshit ran by billionaires. We believe in putting on a very good show, writing good songs and the rest will take care of itself. We have played dozens of small festivals, hundreds of shows, and on occasion welcome the corporate music thing but lately are really focusing on writing, recording and releasing more of our songs. Like Doc always cheered after we played him a song,
"we're gonna be famous!" - We would love to come play, thanks for considering us, we now live in Richmond, CA 94806

CLIFFORD LAMB BIO

Clifford Lamb was born in New York City and began playing classical piano at the age of 5. He discovered Jazz at age 16 and was fortunate to begin jazz studies with Wes Montgomery’s pianist, Richard Crabtree.

He studied piano and arranging at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music. While completing his studies at Berklee, Clifford played with such stellar musicians as Kevin Eubanks (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno), Tommy Campbell (Mahavishnu, Dizzy Gillespie) among many others.

Shortly later, he performed as a journeyman pianist – including a stint with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra before settling in Los Angeles, where he credits such local heroes as bassists Larry Gales and Henry Franklin as key influences. He performed there with Carl Burnett, John Pattitucci (Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock), Henry “Skipper” Franklin, George Adams and many others.

He eventually moved to the Bay Area where, and after a slight respite from the scene, he rededicated himself to music. His performances in San Francisco included collaborations with Herbie Lewis (McCoy Tyner, Jackie Maclean), Donald “Duck” Bailey, John Handy and Darrell Green.

His piano style has been shaped by such influential past masters as Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock. But he has also delved into the music of such younger musicians as pianists Robert Glasper, and Danilo Perez and trumpeters Nicholas Payton and Ambrose Akinmusire.

Clifford’s first Recording, released in 1999, featured Victoria Ryan (Cat Stevens, Herbie Hancock) and was followed by his nationally recognized 2008 release “One” featuring his own compositions and arrangements.

In 2016, Clifford’s recording, “Bridges” was recorded live to two tracks and released nationally and internationally on Weberworks. Featuring Cindy Blackman Santana and Buster Williams, the recording was produced by highly lauded producer, Jeffrey Weber, and enjoyed significant airplay on over 300 stations world-wide.

His follow up effort, “Brothers & Sisters, also recorded live to two tracks and produced by Jeffrey Weber, was released in 2017, again for Weberworks. The album again features his trio, Cindy Blackman Santana and Buster Williams along with special guest, Nicholas Payton. “Brothers & Sisters” reached the top 50 on the jazz charts and was overwhelmingly accepted by over 400 radio stations.

Clifford teamed up again with producer Jeffrey Weber for his next live two track recording, “Blues & Hues,” released in 2019 on Weberworks. For this exceptionally unique offering, Clifford gathered his quartet, Cindy Blackman Santana, Buster Williams and Nicholas Payton for this album of “mashups” but also added a host of special guests on woodwinds, guitars, vocals and even a rapper. This project features a series of Clifford’s original compositions intertwined with songs that have had an impact on Clifford or were sources of inspiration.

Clifford’s library of recordings all feature his deeply passionate themes of oppression, dissension, retribution and redemption. The live two track recording methodology literally captures his performances and offers Clifford at his most searing emotional, in the moment, expression of vulnerability and determination.

but it’s her deeply soulful, powerhouse vocals that define her sound and connect with audiences worldwide.

Review from NRN, New Releases Now: https://www.newreleasesnow.com/album/back-porchestra-stories-in-the-heart
Vince's Hot Picks (Best of 2026): Back Porchestra returns with Stories In The Heart, a warm, mostly unplugged roots record that blends country blues, New Orleans swing, Tex-Mex, and soul.

"San Francisco roots collective Back Porchestra returns with Stories In The Heart, a warm, road-worn album that leans into rich acoustic tones while freely bending genres without ever breaking the feel. Built around a mostly unplugged framework, the record draws from country blues, roots rock, Zydeco, Tex-Mex, New Orleans rhythms, Motown soul, singer-songwriter traditions, and even Brazilian textures, all woven together with an easy confidence that sounds earned, not assembled.

At the core is Tim Eschliman, whose seasoned vocals and resonator guitar bring gravity and grit shaped by years sharing stages with artists like Etta James and Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. He’s surrounded by a Bay Area roots dream team: Bowen Brown on drums, Candy Girard on violin, Beau Beaullieu on bass, and Gary Potterton on guitar and dobro. Together, they give Stories In The Heart its loose swing and lived-in chemistry, favoring feel over flash and letting the songs unfold naturally.

The album’s extended cast adds even more depth. Guest vocals from Kathy Kennedy bring a touch of classic soul lineage tied to Smokey Robinson, while percussionist Vicki Randle, known for her work with Jay Leno’s Tonight Show band, adds subtle rhythmic color. Piano from the late Austin de Lone and additional percussion from Mingo Lewis Jr. round out a sound that feels expansive without ever getting crowded.

What sets Stories In The Heart apart is its sense of balance. Resonator guitar, violin, bass, drums, percussion, dobro, and Telecaster create a flexible, roots-forward palette that allows Back Porchestra to move between styles fluidly. The songs echo traditions without reenacting them, keeping one foot in the past and the other firmly planted in the present.

As Americana Highway’s Jeff Burger observed, Back Porchestra evokes artists across decades and genres, sharing DNA with bands like Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks and Asleep at the Wheel. With Stories In The Heart, they prove that roots music still thrives when it stays curious, collaborative, and grounded in the simple power of great players trusting the song."

Ira Marlowe and the Slow RevealBerkeley

Ira Marlowe has taught songwriting at UC Berkeley, penned the songs for four San Francisco Mime Troupe Shows, and survived a series of comically botched major label record deals. In 2023 he formed The Slow Reveal, assembled from musicians he met at The Monkey House, the 50-seat University Ave. venue he opened in 2012. Marlowe is known for the breadth of his songwriting (he's currently creating a workshop production of an original musical inspired by Kafka's "The Metamorphosis") but for Point Richmond Music the band will focus on their fun, upbeat material--smart, lyrically-drive songs rooted in rock, funk, blues and soul. Through the Monkey House, they have an email list of over 3,000 and are confident they can bring a chunk of their fan base out to this lively event. IMPORTANT NOTE: While we have many great upbeat songs, for some reason all we have on Youtube is a short clip from one of them. I'm including a second (slow) song as an indication of the quality of what we do, NOT what we will play at the Pt. Richmond festival. We have a Jan 24 show where we intend to videotape extensively and will post more upbeat samples soon after that. My apologies for this.

Jeffrey Halford and the HealersMarin, The Peninsula, Santa Cruz

Americana singer/songwriter Jeffrey Halford has been perfecting his craft for three decades. Born in Dallas, a then four-year-old Halford nestled into the back seat of his family’s ‘59 El Dorado en route to Los Angeles. Halford found solace in surfing, “shooting the tube” became one of the few constants in Halford’s life, providing him an escape from both his parents’ fluctuating income and sobriety.
Thanks to Wolfman Jack and AM radio, Halford found a burgeoning passion for music as a teenager. He began to immerse himself deep into songwriting, receiving a nylon string for his 14th birthday, Halford never looked back. And while his lack of formal music education would suggest he’s self-taught, Halford would certainly beg to differ.
Moving to San Francisco in 1977, Halford wandered the streets in search of live music. Persistence earned him a regular spot alongside Harry Spider and Jimmy Ventilator, two of the city’s finest street musicians. These frequent sidewalk appearances earned him gigs with Oakland blues legends Sonny Lane, Mississippi Johnny Waters and J.J. Malone.
Over the last 30 years, Halford has been touring the country with his band, the Healers. Eight European tours under his belt as well, his most recent album reaching number one on the Euro-Americana charts, it’s evident Halford’s influence has spread far beyond his California stomping grounds. They have played shows with some of music’s most acclaimed artists and songwriters — as well as Halford’s influences — such as Taj Mahal, Los Lobos, George Thorogood, Gregg Allman, Etta James, John Hammond, and Texas Greats Augie Meyers, Guy Clark and Robert Earl Keen. Like those who came before him, Halford is attempting to write songs that withstand the test of time.

Gathering their musical thunder from an extremely eclectic time and space spanning centuries, this band busts straight through the glass ceiling of genre-bending: original funky jazzy neo-soul music exploding with grit, integrity, and vulnerability. Roze is a key artist in conveying the emotional intent behind a song. Los NadiesEast Bay

Hi- we were selected by you in 2025 for the July concert, but very sadly we couldn't do the date we were offered! 🙁
I sent a request for this year, responding in the 2025 thread with Kim, and am applying here again as well. We REALLY hope to be considered again.
Thank you

About us-
Los Nadies plays Latin fusion* music.
We do a mix of originals and covers, have a big catalog and can tailor to the mood or vibe. Casual listening, dancing, or concert setting.
We are in regular rotation at the Sailing Goat, and Del Cielo Brewery in addition to other public, civic and private gigs around the Bay.
We emphasize fun and celebration, and we enjoy playing and being together- like a family, not a bunch of hired guns.
Our singer/frontman Juan Cuba delivers powerful vocals, supported by rich harmonies, and the rhythm section and soloists deliver also.
Members origins hail from Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia and the Bay Area.
We released a 10-song album of original music "Tiempo de Desembarcar" in August of 2025- I will add streaming link, and Instagram link below.

*So, we are a Latin fusion/rock band- meaning... well, not a salsa style Latin with horns and a lot of percussion, but not exactly Santana-like Latin rock either- more of a guitar/violin and vocal driven blend of rock and some modern/traditional Latin styles like- Cumbia, Rumba Flamenca, Boleros, and Bossa Nova, mixed with Reggae, and some African and Middle-Eastern and funk flavors sprinkled in too, a lot of variety. Most songs are sung in Spanish. Some of our English covers include Cumbia versions of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game", and Pink Floyd's "The Wall", a Rumba version of Johnny Cash/NIN "Hurt"... etc.

Nathan Bickart TrioOakland, CA

The Nathan Bickart Trio composes and improvises from a deeply collaborative aesthetic, valuing folk-song melodies that hold audience members in rapt attention, recognizing that three notes played in unity are stronger than 300 played apart. They build upon the piano trio traditions of artists ranging from Ahmad Jamal to Robert Glasper, recognizing the ways in which musical and spiritual practices can be folded into our complex and busy modern existence. The trio released their debut album ‘Poem’ on March 28th, 2018, and toured the West Coast of the United States in support of the album. Most recently, the Trio composed and premiered a 4-movement piece entitled ‘Gravity Sweet’, a multi-media reflection on human relationship to land, in April 2022, with support from InterMusic SF.
Nathan's compositions and improvisations navigate the inner spaces between jazz, folk, and soul musics, melting together discarded records and old baseball cards and browning Bay leaves to create a heartening night of tunes, good for dancing or lounging or lingering in the moonlight just a little longer. You can find Nathan performing with a diverse array of Bay Area artists, including vocalists Christelle Durandy, Lilan Kane, and as part of the duo DADÉ with drummer/producer Marshall Williams. Laura Benitez and the Heartache use the three chord tools of country music to tell the simple, unvarnished truth about love, too much whiskey, and the call of the road. Their new album, "California Centuries," finds the band delving deep into themes of collective denial ("Bad Things"), gaslighting ("Invisible" and "Gaslight") and romantic lessons learned ("I'm the One" and "Are You Using Your Heart"). Storyteller, content creator, songwriter and all around creative force, Benitez has been making her mark on stage and screen for more than two decades. She recently wrote the theme song for the Dingus of the Week podcast created by popular author and activist Lyz Lenz, and her song "Our Remember Whens" received an honorable mention in the American Songwriter lyric contest in January of 2016.

"The album has a larger-than-life sound, with bedrock rhythms complimented by washes of steel guitar and reverberating electric guitars that take up an immense sonic space." --j.poet, EAST BAY EXPRESS

"A fresh classic country remains her bedrock, to which Benitez has added layers of rock and bluegrass. While never shirking from tough subjects, she is drawing more on personal experience here. Ranging from the joyous to the somber, Benitez is always completely frank. California Centuries is a tight sounding and complete album.", --Lyndon Bolton, NO DEPRESSION

Scribe is an Alternative Progressive Rock Power Trio hailing from the hills of Northern California. We are writing and delivering songs within this imaginative trio structure. Our trio consists of a powerful, yet compositionally focused drummer, a lyrical and inventive bass- playing lead vocalist with a warm and flowing vocal style, and a melodic, song-oriented, nuanced electric guitarist who adds vocal harmonies. Performing great material within this configuration with care and focus is very challenging, and also our mission and purpose.

We are recording and preparing to perform 12 fantastic original songs while working out all the details for exciting live shows at band practice. This 3rd release, “THAW”, features brand new material, as well as the best of legacy Scribe tunes reimagined for 2026.

With over 100 million plays on Pandora, troubadour and award-winning songwriter, Forest Sun, enlivens audiences around the globe with his wealth of songs and stories, all sung and told in a laid-back California style. Sun's soulful music draws on a deep well of Americana and is compared to everyone from Jack Johnson and The Avett Brothers to Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. He’s played festivals from California (Strawberry Music Festival, American River Music Festival) to Europe (Belladrum in Scottland, Fiesta City in Belgium),opened for such luminaries as Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Rait, Steve Earle, Keb Mo, and toured with folks like Brett Dennen, Mason Jennings and the Beach Boys (Forest met famed Beach Boys producer Van Dyke Parks at a festival porch jam and later swapped songs on his piano at his house in LA). Musical collaborations on his records include members of Bob Dylans band, members of Calexico/Iron and Wine, Heather Massse(The Wailin' Jennys, Prairie Home Companion) Jolie Holland (The Be Good Tanyas), JT Nero(of Birds of Chicago), Sean Hayes, jam band ALO, and bluegrass band Hot Buttered Rum.

Forest’s songs mine his deep folk roots and embrace his love of gospel, soul, reggae, and country.

Groove AlchemyBerkeley CA

Groove Alchemy plays what we call Rock/Ska/Funk with a side of Jazz. We try to be accurate but like a lot of bands, we love styles from around the world so describing us would be a paragraph of its own. We also improvise together as well as solo, so what do you call new music that you invent which changes every night? (Groove Alchemy)

Musicians in the band have deep experience playing in local tribute bands - the bassist played in Who Too (The Who) and our sax player still plays in Slinky Thing( Steely Dan). We have also all played in original and cover bands from a wide range of styles from New Orleans Funk to Blues to Jazz and what people call Latin but we all have Rock in common. At times we develop a huge sound for just four players, other times dropping it down to more subtle, nuanced playing but we always keep the focus on dance music. The bassist got a book published: The Bassist's Bible: How to Play Every Bass Style from Afro-Cuban to Zydeco which took the better part of a decade to complete. Before writing this book he could probably play 4 styles well and fake perhaps another 4. After completing the book he realized that he could incorporate his knowledge and love of many styles into his compositions accurately or hybridize them a bit to make them fit within the compositions. Playing such varied music in a primarily dance oriented format helps us create our own sound.

Matt Jaffe BandSan Francisco

My music honors classic rock through modern originals. Think Tom Petty meets Johnny Cash meets David Byrne. You will dance!

Matt Jaffe is an indie rock & roll singer/songwriter from San Francisco. Cutting his teeth on countless open mics around the Bay, Matt started taking music (a little bit) more seriously when Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads offered to produce his first record. Since then, Matt has continued to churn out more songs than he can remember the words to, perform on stages throughout the land (opening and/or touring with the likes of Mavis Staples, Wilco, Bob Weir, Jackie Greene, Chuck Prophet, Alejandro Escovedo, Melissa Etheridge, and Blues Traveler), and collaborate with Tom Higgenson (Hey There, Delilah). Inspired by the likes of Elvis Costello, Tom Petty and Stephin Merritt, Matt is continuously writing and recording to build a songbook that honors his heroes. Most folks, including Boy George, compare Matt to David Bowie, but we think Tom Petty meets Johnny Cash meets David Byrne is a better descriptor. Matt is currently rolling out his 8th studio album, Rooms By The Sea.

This band generates a big response from audiences with their friendly banter and responsiveness to requests from audience members. This is a band with a sense of humor that can easily move between material designed to get you up on your feet dancing or tugging at your heart to buy another drink and lose your sorrows.

The band is comprised of top shelf veterans of the bay area music scene. Drawing from such well known bands/performers as Commander Cody, Maria Muldaur, Laughing Gravy, San Geronimo, The Rhythm Rangers, Clint Black, Shirley Bassey & more.

Stabe Wilson BandOakland, CA

Stabe Wilson is a genre-defying saxophonist whose roots run deep in gospel and whose artistry soars through the realms of jazz, funk, soul, and beyond. The proud son of Oakland's revered Rev. Dr. Claude E. Wilson and godson of gospel icon Edwin Hawkins, Stabe was steeped in music from birth. A child prodigy, he toured internationally with Hawkins, absorbing the spiritual fire and emotional depth of gospel that continues to shape his voice today.

While gospel was his launchpad, rhythm and jazz, and contemporary instrumental became his true north. Under the mentorship of the late, great David Sanborn—an artist celebrated for pushing genre boundaries—Stabe discovered the freedom to fuse his gospel heritage with the full spectrum of Black American music. Like his mentor, he resists categorization, blending elements of Jazz, Funk, R&B, Gospel, Soul, and Rock into a sonic tapestry that’s both timeless and cutting-edge.

The Stabe Wilson Band embodies this eclectic vision. Their performances are dynamic, soulful, and deeply immersive—featuring original compositions, reinvented jazz standards, gospel-tinged ballads, funk-forward grooves, and electrifying improvisations. Whether channeling the spiritual depth of Coltrane, the sensual sway of Marvin Gaye, or the brass-driven fire of Tower of Power, the band delivers every note with authenticity, spontaneity, and spirit.

Musical influences span across genres:

Jazz Icons: David Sanborn, Grover Washington Jr., John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley

Gospel Legends: Edwin Hawkins, Andraé Crouch, The Clark Sisters

Funk & Soul Masters: Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Prince, Stevie Wonder

R&B Voices: Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway, Anita Baker

Rock & Fusion Trailblazers: Santana, Jeff Beck, Weather Report

At its core, the Stabe Wilson Band is about storytelling through sound—creating musical experiences that aren’t just heard but deeply felt. Each member of the ensemble is a virtuoso in their own right, fluent in a spectrum of musical dialects. Together, they craft performances that are polished yet raw, sacred yet celebratory—a place where the sanctuary meets the stage and soul meets swing.
From festival stages to intimate venues, from worship gatherings to worldwide showcases, Stabe Wilson and his band deliver more than a show—they offer a transcendent, groove-infused journey that moves hearts, minds, and feet.
