The most interesting thing about AfriCali is that it lends importance to all the instrumentation as much as it does to the vocals, while the melodies of each instrument and voice develops in episodes, as opposed to the familiar verse-chorus format. What is astounding about this piece is its absolute ground-breaking and utterly contemporary fusion of innumerable elements. About as experimental and open-hearted as music gets, the endless interweaving of various keyboard, guitar sounds, the vocals and the evolving percussion, equals a masterpiece in any terms.

Touchstyle Vina, Drums and Digeridoo, Saxophone
Australian Bebop Ragas (also known as ABR) features original compositions based on Hindustani Ragas.
Teed Rockwell learned these Ragas from over a hundred classes with Ali Akbar Khan, and from dozens of classes with Sitar Maestros Shahid Parvez and Habib Khan. Teed is the only person in the world to play in this musical tradition on the Touchstyle Veena, a unique customized instrument which has a guitar-like fretboard played by tapping the strings simultaneously with both hands.
Jesse Sheehan is one of the very few saxophonists trained in the Hindustani musical tradition. He studied tabla in India for years with living legend Pandit Nayan Ghosh, and also performed with many of India’s finest musicians.
Andy Graham plays (Australian) didgeridoo and (Bebop) drums simultaneously, using a unique rack mounted system that he designed and built himself. He played with Teed in the popular Sonoma county band DyaTribal, and is widely known as the inventor of many unique musical instruments. He is especially known for the slaperoo, which is played by musicians as diverse as Stevie Wonder and Indian Percussionist Shivamani.
ABR was originally formed with Teed Rockwell on the Touchstyle Veena, Stephen Kent on didgeridoo, and Sameer Gupta on drums. This version of ABR played numerous concerts across the state and country, including several shows at the famed Berkeley venue Freight & Salvage. They also recorded an album called Snakes and Ladders, which sold thousands of copies through a variety of distributors, has over a hundred listener-created stations on Pandora, and is widely listened to on Spotify, Apple, and most other streaming services.

Review from NRN, New Releases Now: https://www.newreleasesnow.com/album/back-porchestra-stories-in-the-heart
Vince's Hot Picks (Best of 2026): Back Porchestra returns with Stories In The Heart, a warm, mostly unplugged roots record that blends country blues, New Orleans swing, Tex-Mex, and soul.
"San Francisco roots collective Back Porchestra returns with Stories In The Heart, a warm, road-worn album that leans into rich acoustic tones while freely bending genres without ever breaking the feel. Built around a mostly unplugged framework, the record draws from country blues, roots rock, Zydeco, Tex-Mex, New Orleans rhythms, Motown soul, singer-songwriter traditions, and even Brazilian textures, all woven together with an easy confidence that sounds earned, not assembled.
At the core is Tim Eschliman, whose seasoned vocals and resonator guitar bring gravity and grit shaped by years sharing stages with artists like Etta James and Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. He’s surrounded by a Bay Area roots dream team: Bowen Brown on drums, Candy Girard on violin, Beau Beaullieu on bass, and Gary Potterton on guitar and dobro. Together, they give Stories In The Heart its loose swing and lived-in chemistry, favoring feel over flash and letting the songs unfold naturally.
The album’s extended cast adds even more depth. Guest vocals from Kathy Kennedy bring a touch of classic soul lineage tied to Smokey Robinson, while percussionist Vicki Randle, known for her work with Jay Leno’s Tonight Show band, adds subtle rhythmic color. Piano from the late Austin de Lone and additional percussion from Mingo Lewis Jr. round out a sound that feels expansive without ever getting crowded.
What sets Stories In The Heart apart is its sense of balance. Resonator guitar, violin, bass, drums, percussion, dobro, and Telecaster create a flexible, roots-forward palette that allows Back Porchestra to move between styles fluidly. The songs echo traditions without reenacting them, keeping one foot in the past and the other firmly planted in the present.
As Americana Highway’s Jeff Burger observed, Back Porchestra evokes artists across decades and genres, sharing DNA with bands like Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks and Asleep at the Wheel. With Stories In The Heart, they prove that roots music still thrives when it stays curious, collaborative, and grounded in the simple power of great players trusting the song."

CLIFFORD LAMB BIO
Clifford Lamb was born in New York City and began playing classical piano at the age of 5. He discovered Jazz at age 16 and was fortunate to begin jazz studies with Wes Montgomery’s pianist, Richard Crabtree.
He studied piano and arranging at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music. While completing his studies at Berklee, Clifford played with such stellar musicians as Kevin Eubanks (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno), Tommy Campbell (Mahavishnu, Dizzy Gillespie) among many others.
Shortly later, he performed as a journeyman pianist – including a stint with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra before settling in Los Angeles, where he credits such local heroes as bassists Larry Gales and Henry Franklin as key influences. He performed there with Carl Burnett, John Pattitucci (Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock), Henry “Skipper” Franklin, George Adams and many others.
He eventually moved to the Bay Area where, and after a slight respite from the scene, he rededicated himself to music. His performances in San Francisco included collaborations with Herbie Lewis (McCoy Tyner, Jackie Maclean), Donald “Duck” Bailey, John Handy and Darrell Green.
His piano style has been shaped by such influential past masters as Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock. But he has also delved into the music of such younger musicians as pianists Robert Glasper, and Danilo Perez and trumpeters Nicholas Payton and Ambrose Akinmusire.
Clifford’s first Recording, released in 1999, featured Victoria Ryan (Cat Stevens, Herbie Hancock) and was followed by his nationally recognized 2008 release “One” featuring his own compositions and arrangements.
In 2016, Clifford’s recording, “Bridges” was recorded live to two tracks and released nationally and internationally on Weberworks. Featuring Cindy Blackman Santana and Buster Williams, the recording was produced by highly lauded producer, Jeffrey Weber, and enjoyed significant airplay on over 300 stations world-wide.
His follow up effort, “Brothers & Sisters, also recorded live to two tracks and produced by Jeffrey Weber, was released in 2017, again for Weberworks. The album again features his trio, Cindy Blackman Santana and Buster Williams along with special guest, Nicholas Payton. “Brothers & Sisters” reached the top 50 on the jazz charts and was overwhelmingly accepted by over 400 radio stations.
Clifford teamed up again with producer Jeffrey Weber for his next live two track recording, “Blues & Hues,” released in 2019 on Weberworks. For this exceptionally unique offering, Clifford gathered his quartet, Cindy Blackman Santana, Buster Williams and Nicholas Payton for this album of “mashups” but also added a host of special guests on woodwinds, guitars, vocals and even a rapper. This project features a series of Clifford’s original compositions intertwined with songs that have had an impact on Clifford or were sources of inspiration.
Clifford’s library of recordings all feature his deeply passionate themes of oppression, dissension, retribution and redemption. The live two track recording methodology literally captures his performances and offers Clifford at his most searing emotional, in the moment, expression of vulnerability and determination.
